Casteless Society
As long as we Indians are stuck in this current cess pool called the caste system and religions that divide the population into factions, there can never be real progress in India , Never. We the People of India know this and our politicians know this too. Yet they will not change this, as neither the Licence/Quota Raj Congress party, nor the Hindu majority BJP will have a vote base, if caste/religious divide gets abolished in India.
The need of the hour is for the people to unite and Say “No’ to Caste system altogether.
Who are we or the politicians, to brand people for life depending on who their parents are, what caste they belong to or what religion they belong to? .
Will we, as educated people agree on this ? I don't think so. I know people will quote verses from the Gita and the Bible to me in response to prove religion matters, to tell me that caste system and religion are here to stay in India and is a reality as our Finance Minister Chidambaram put it.
Did we choose our Parents? No
Did we choose our Caste ? No
Did we choose our Religion? No
Not a soul in the world had a choice when he/she was born. All children are born innocent, beautiful and equal and society brands them the minute they open their eyes and start crying. I have always wondered why a new born child cries and does not laugh. Is it in anticipation of the drudgery of caste and religious branding that will follow for a life time ? Perhaps
The minute we ere born, we instantly inherit all this baggage, which are strapped round our necks, like dog collars to be worn for life until death and cremation / burial. It is no different to the microchip that is implanted in domestic pets in the west to identify if lost .
In fact my memory tells me that people who were branded as Harijans, both men and women had these massive tattoos all over their hands and even fore heads, virtually saying I am an untouchable please keep your distance. How shameful.
It was really meaningless of Gandhi to bring his miserable personal experiences in South Africa to India and free India from the British. What was needed in India then was to free the population of the caste and religious divide before freeing India from the British, but that would have been wishful thinking pre independence.
Yes, Gandhi tried his level best to unite Hindus, Muslims and other faiths through his song, when he sang Eeswara Allah Tere Naam, Subko Sanmathi De Bhagvan . We still sing this in India but do we realize what it meant then and what it still means now ? No . Most of us just sing the song without feelings or emotions these days. The same goes for the National Anthem. I attended the Independence day celebrations in Sydney and as the National Flag was raised & National Anthem played there were this so called educated Indians rushing to get to the sweets and savoury before the rest of crowd got there and there was this other small group of men standing and having a smoke. This is what modern India is all about. May be I am an old timer but this kind of behaviour hurts for sure. Maine Gandhi Kho Nahin Maara brings out pretty much how I feel..
Was Gandhi given a say in India’s constitution to see his dreams through through ?
I believe not. It was also a Hindu who murdered him in the end. That is what Hindus are all about . self destruct mode
Gandhi was used as a figure head to drive the British out of India and once done self-centered power brokers like Nehru divided the nation on religious grounds creating Pakistan. The elite Nehru Kashmiri Brahman Dynasty and his Congress party, have made no attempts to abolish the caste system and ban it through legislation and constitutional amendments for the last 60 years. All 97 odd amendments have deepened the divide.
Not only that, they have ignored primary education for 60 odd years to maintain their vote banks from the impoverished, Hindus branded as low caste. Now the very same upper caste Brahman Nehru Congress is so sorry for the disadvantaged Low caste Hindus that they want to embrace them and give better opportunities to at least 300 million OBC - Other Backward Class people in India, better access to jobs and education. How Noble of Arjun Singh. May his tribe increase.
Oh yes, not just higher educational institutions and government services but also 50% reservation in the private sector. How foolish a ploy? Latest news is that Apple have closed shop & packed their bags and left Bangalore. Originally Apple management had intended to employ 3000 people by 2007. Todays news is that Intel plans to cut staff by 50% . Ofcourse pandits will tell me these were business decisions. Yes who would want to do business in a quota Raj ? This exodus was anticipated by many when we heard of the 49% reservation in private sector
The question is, will all Indian business people sell up and migrate as well or will they toss out this lunatic Government that has lost the plot ?. Will our highly qualified Finance Minister and Prime Minister allow the rot and see Sensex taking a nose dive destroying everything the nation had gained in the last decade ? Do these two expert economists understand that each and every word they utter affects our stock market ?
Some one wrote to me and said Ram do not under estimate Arjun Singh, he is clever and very cunning. He is trying to embarrass Man Mohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi for personal reasons. At age 76 can the man not call it a day and leave the nation alone ?
We have a nation of 20 million children to educate, yet HRD Minister is focussed on destroying a handful of educational institutions like IITs, IIMs and AIMs that hardly educate about 10,000 students each year. And to solve this he has proposed another seven deemed IITs. Why, because HRD believes these institutions are funded by the Government, yet he as HRD Minister is not allowed to dictate who gets into IITs, IIMs and AIMs. Yes JEE may be a bit skewed to favour the elite & affluent but that is something that can be fixed by educationists if they put their minds to it.
I believe the issue is one of destroying the autonomy of IITs, IIMs, and AIMs where even a HRD minister dare not pick up the phone and tell the Director that he wants admissions in IIT for X,Y,Z candidates. That my friends is what IITs, IIMs and AIMs will lose with 49% reservation. Just like Politicians in Tamil Nadu push all their candidates through reservation quotas, central government ministers & Babus perhaps from AICTE, will determine who deserve the Quota seats in seven IIT's Plus seven doomed IITs ( excuse the pun)
Let us assume that India has 20 million children below age 20. It is logical to assume one million in each age group. And that will translate into 4 million students between age 17 to 20 who will be eligible for admissions to elite institutions like IITs,IIMs and Aims.
Yes indeed we want to give SC/ST/OBC a fair share of the cake. There are 10,000 seats altogether and that means 5000 are reserved seats to be distributed amongst four million possible applicants. Is this not some thing that will give rise to mal practices and corruption ?.
By raising the reservation to 49% and including the OBC, where OBC is about a third of the nations population, HRD and his chumchas will have a field day in deciding which of the four million OBC high school students, will get into these elite institutions. It will not be long before we come to know of the OBC scam. The Police officer who exposes this scam will be posted else where and the case transferred to CBI to the "never to be resolved " section and buried for ever like all other murders like Satyendra Dubeys and scams of India Like the stamp scam
The whites in USA have been fairer to the blacks in comparison to how India has treated SC/ST people since Independence. South Africa has broken away from the shackles of apartheid. Yet Gandhi who inspired Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela to free their people, has left behind an India that to this day practices caste based apartheid to destroy opportunities & lives of millions.
Can some one like Arjun Singh ever know the insults and humiliation associated with being a Harijan, an untouchable and made to feel life long like lepers of the society ?.
You could be the High Commissioner of India, yet you can hear whispers saying “Oh that fellow, he is a Scheduled Caste” as if it makes him a useless High Commissioner of India. Do we want this caste discrimination to continue ad infinitum ?
Politicians of Arjun Singh’s age, born in 1930 belong to pre Independence India . Old men like these use Gandhi’s name to choke the nation for ever and need to depart the political scene with dignity. They have done enough damage already during the Licence Raj..
Can we not impose a retirement age of 65 for politicians, like in every other service ?
Wake up India remove the dog collars called Caste as these are strapped round your neck from birth as these are not God given birth marks. Can we blame dalits for abandoning this oppressive caste system and embracing Christianity and Islam that promises to restore ones dignity as a human being ? I would not hesitate to give my caste tag a flick
Let us seek changes through supreme court & legislation banning all reference to caste and religion in modern India’s constitution. As an individual, I believe in most religions and have come to the conclusion that besides greed, religion is the cause for a lot of blood shed in the world.
Religions are true philosophies of value no doubt, it is the way man practices religion that is a problem. To me truth is God, Love is God and God is in me and God is my conscience. Not in a temple or a church or a mosque.
My question to Christians who say they believe in Christ, why does the Christian world have Catholics, Protestants, Greek Orthodox, Jesuits, Mormons, Seventh day Adventists, Plesbyterians, Syrian Christians, Korean Christians......and the list is just as endless as Hindu caste system. I wonder if Da Vinci Code is in fact fiction or borders on near thruth.
I am reading names of hindu castes, these days that I have never heard all my life and to believe that HRD has listed 876 OBC for reservation is just about vote bank politics. that is how many castes we have.
Muslims have the Sunnis and Shiites which were born, due to a power struggle after Mohammed passed away and I have just realised that in India you have the upper caste and lower caste Muslim too, depending on your ancestral origins, whether Arabic descent or hindus converted as muslims. I never ever gave it a second thought when one muslim man referred to another muslim in Triplicane Madras as "Saar He is a Labbe Muslim Saar" meaning he was a lower caste Muslim.. I do not know what the upper caste Muslims are called.
Considering all this divides and power struggle within religion I personally find peace through Buddhism. I enjoy my occasional 75 Kilometer long trips to my favorite Buddhist temple in Woolongong just to get away from it all
If we can achieve a classless society there is nothing that can hold this nation back. If we are not a true world power today, we can without hesitation point at Congress whose ministers and their children get educated in Harvard and Oxford Universities etc. to continue for ever as rulers. Is India a democracy or is it a monarchy ?
Today 150,000 Indian school children are leaving home at age 16 to do undergraduate degree overseas. Is this what they want ? Do they have a choice ? It costs the nation an estimated US $ 4 Billion a year.
When about 2000 IITitians went to USA every year, the nation screamed foul and called them self centered people who used tax payers money. Yes we had to leave for greener pastures, as there were no jobs in India, besides government jobs, rife with corruption. I tried to payback the nation for educating me, by working in India for five long years as a Highways engineer on Rs 450 a month. Yes I could have stayed on and become corrupt like most others. I chose the alternative to go away where I was just me and every one was equal as a citizen, I did not have to wait outside the offices of politicians to get a promotion or a transfer or a salary increment.
If 2000 IITians going abroad was a brain drain what do we have to say about, 150000 Indian children who are forced to leave each year to study abroad as they had nil opportunities in India to get a decent education. Luckily they had parents who either were affluent or borrowed money, to ensure the children had an education that would put them on their own feet. Now what about the remaining 20 million poor children, who have no chance in hell to become even skilled workers ?.
Yes Indians are so clever that every man and his dog has an opinion and better still we are the crabs in a basket and pull each other down and eventually no one succeeds. And if we do despite this we have a Govt that will pour boiling water and cook us alive as crabs.
Here is a very relevant example of how Indians think and behave. One day Cricket match in India, Dravid is the Captain and Ganguli has been dropped. Bengalis in Calcutta celebrated every time India lost a wicket. Why because Prince Saurabh was not playing. This was relayed to me by a retired Bengali orthopaedic surgeon who was visiting Calcutta. He said Ram I was ashamed of the Bengali mentality. This brings up the question, how Indian are we, truthfully ?I know in Madras in a block of apartments the Tamils will not mix freely with the Marwaris or the Bengalis who live just next door. Can life be sadder than that ?
A United India is a myth and was put to gether by the British rulers and not by Indians.. Our Freedom fighters made the biggest mistake of allowing the old Kingdoms of India becoming States with linguistic divides. Such as Tamils, Malayalees, Kannadigas etc same as Chera, Chola, Pandya Kingdoms that have been fighting for centuries and we wonder why Karnataka will not allow water to Tamil Nadu
I am a non descript Indian. I could even be an Arab as suspected by Singapore customs because I sported a beard and wore a T shirt that said Bahrain. I am a Kala Pani born in Andaman’s where all the people we mixed with were central government servants from all over India. As a child I grew up with people who I believed were all Indians. Malayalees, Kannadigas, Bengalis, Sardarjis etc etc and we all spoke Hindi.
Being a Telugu Chap I was amused when at Tirupathi temple the ushers kept yelling, chaloo Saab chaloo as I looked like a North Indian and they looked at my wife in her pattu sari and said Jaragandi ma Jaragandi ( being a Bengali she asked me dadu what does Jaragandi mean ? ) In Agra a fellow looked at me in the face and said Madarasi Sala, in Delhi I accidentally stepped on a students toe. He assumed I was a North Indian and abused me in Tamil and all I had to say was “Enna Thambi” and he froze. India is such a complex fabric of meaningless prejudices that the problem the nation faces are mind boggling to say the least
I think it was EVK Periyar, who formed DK ( Dravida Khalagam) who said “ in one of his speeches “ Rendae Jadhi Than, Aaan Jadhi, Penn Jadi , meaning there are just two castes in this world the male and the female the rest are man made castes. How ture It is a standard joke in my house where we tell our son he can marry any one he loves from any caste, religion or nationality as long as it is a woman !!
The worlds population can be broadly divided into poor, middle and rich classes where the gradient as well as the percentage population in each category varies in different countries. Does not matter if some one is a billionaire, he still cannot eat more than three meals a day and even if he has a twelve bedroom house he can sleep just in one bed and when the game is over the King and the Pawn go into the same Box Measuring 6 feet x 2 feet
Will my Dream for India with no caste or religious differences come true in my life time..
I do not think so. Not in my life time for sure. Even Gandhi failed trying.
A casteless society will make every citizen enjoy equal rights and this will translate to 100% reservation and every one can be happy
